Chromium to see ‘continued robust demand growth’ on a global level

South Africa is the largest supplier of Chrome ore in the world and has supplied an extra 2 million tonnes into the market in 2017 in response to a surge in prices at the beginning of last year. This has impacted the price of chrome in 2018 but is expected to recover robustly once the additional supply has worked through the market. The political climate changes in Zimbabwe has created a renewed supply of chrome ores from within Zimbabwe into the market. Demand from Stainless steel is strong but is competing with UG2 demand from the platinum industry.
