Bacanora Minerals, a lithium project developer, has announced that its jointly controlled company Deutsche Lithium, has been granted a mining licence for its Zinnwald lithium project, in Southern Saxony, Germany. The 30 year licence covers the 256.5 hectares of the Sn/W/Li granite deposit .
The Zinnwald deposit has been mined historically for tin, tungsten and lithium, and Bacanora is currently undertaking a resource drilling programme, which is expected to be completed by January 2018. The other part of the development work is the collection of a 100t bulk sample from the legacy mine to develop the metallurgical flowsheet to produce a lithium rich concentrate.
Bacanora is working to prove that the Zinnwald deposit will be able to produce higher value lithium products by 2019 for the battery and automotive sectors. The company is also working on the Sonora Lithium project in Mexico which is further advanced than Zinnwald. The Sonora Feasibility Study is expected to be finished by the end of 2017, and is based on 17,500tpy battery grade lithium carbonate, which will be followed by an expansion to 35,000tpy lithium carbonate. The operation will additionally produce potash sulphate.
