Magnesium compounds: Refratechnik signs Chinese joint venture for magnesia production

Refratechnik of Germany has signed a joint venture with Chinese magnesia producers Haicheng Guotian Mining and Yingkou Jinlong Refractories. The joint venture includes a plant which is currently under construction in Pailou town, Haicheng, China to produce high-grade caustic calcined magnesia (CCM) and dead burned magnesia (DBM). Production could begin in 2019. Planned capacity at the plant includes 100ktpy for DBM and >100ktpy for CCM and related industrial minerals.

Haicheng Guotian Mining already produces CCM and DBM in Haicheng and is reported to have long-term secure access to magnesite ore. Yingkou Jinlong Refractories is a long-term partner of Refratechnik in China.
